Alison Wilson

Alison Wilson is a third-generation Los Angeles native whose relationship with design began long before she ever had the words for it. Her time was split between her two parents — her mother in Santa Monica, surrounded by historic California architecture and design, and her father who lived in the natural, mountainous landscape of Topanga Canyon — where she developed an early and instinctive eye for the way environment shapes how we feel, live, and move through spaces and environments.

Her foundation was built in two very different classrooms. The city offered culture, architecture, and an endless visual education — weekend drives and cultural events at iconic landmarks throughout Los Angeles, and a mother who thought nothing of pulling antique desks and coffee tables off the street and bringing them home. The mountains offered something quieter and equally formative: nature, solitude, and a creativity rooted in the materials the earth provided. Both environments left their mark, and both are present in her work today.

Growing up alongside a father who worked as a painting contractor, Alison was introduced early to the world of construction — the process, the craft, and the people behind the spaces we inhabit. That exposure, combined with a lifelong sensitivity to beauty and environment, led her to train and work across multiple hospitality and high-end interior design firms in Los Angeles. It was there, working alongside highly reputable designers — including mentors at John Brent Design and Disc Interiors — that she developed the technical skills, vendor relationships, and deep understanding of the design process that would come to define her practice. She learned to work fluently with construction teams, navigate the full arc of a project, and source furnishings and fixtures from the highest level vendors to deliver one-of-a-kind, premier spaces. Those years of training became the bedrock upon which Canopy Studio was built.

At the core of Alison's philosophy is a belief that a space should allow someone to feel completely authentic — a true expression of self, comfort, and personal identity, while also feeling elevated and magnetic. She creates spaces that encourage the psyche to settle — layered with natural, textural, and unique materials that evoke emotion without effort. Her work is warm and grounded, timeless without being precious, and always deeply considered. Alison works closely with each client to draw out the full expression of who they are, while gently guiding them into unexpected territory they may not have considered on their own — creating results that are surprising, layered, and wholly unique, yet always a true and genuine reflection of the person at the center of it all.

Canopy Studio's work is further elevated through its close partnership with Requiem Builders and Design, led by Johnathan Fernandez. Together, the two have collaborated on numerous projects — guiding clients through full-scale renovations and delivering homes that are as beautifully resolved as they are genuinely livable. It is a partnership that brings both creative vision and technical mastery to every project, and the results speak for themselves.

Today, Canopy Studio designs with grace — allowing the true personality of each project to surface through every carefully chosen element, and creating spaces that are as individual as the people who inhabit them.

We design with grace, allowing the personality of each project to come through in each of the elements that are carefully incorporated.
